EDF, along with Al Jomaih Energy and Water Co. Ltd. (JENWA) and Buhur for Investment Company, have signed Power Purchase Agreements with The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) for the Taiba-2 and Qassim-2 Conventional Independent Power Producer projects in Saudi Arabia. The consortium will develop the 2 x 1,800MW decarbonised Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) projects.

These projects are set to mark a significant milestone as the first-of-their-kind decarbonised thermal plants in Saudi Arabia. They play a crucial role in the Kingdom's broader energy mix plan, guided by the Ministry of Energy. The plan's objectives are clear: to meet future energy demand, ensure a reliable energy supply, enhance security, promote the localisation of the gas turbine industry, and adopt carbon capture technologies. This aligns with the Saudi Green Initiative, which aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gases by 2060 through the application of advanced technology and circular carbon economy strategies.

EDF is committed to lead in the decarbonisation and carbon capture efforts for these projects, levering our expertise in technology and innovation for sustainable energy solutions. These projects will also have a substantial impact, supplying power to approximately three million residential units annually and contributing to the local economy.
