EDF pioneers groundbreaking decarbonised Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) plants in Saudi Arabia
EDF, alongside Al Jomaih Energy and Water Co. Ltd. (JENWA), and Buhur for Investment Company, have formalized Power Purchase Agreements with the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC). These agreements are for the Taiba-2 and Qassim-2 decarbonised Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) projects, each boasting a 1.8 GW capacity. These initiatives are crucial to Saudi Arabia’s strategy to achieve a net-zero carbon footprint by 2060. EDF is set to spearhead the decarbonisation and carbon capture undertakings, promising a steady energy supply to 1.5 million homes annually and contributing to the nation’s economic growth.
Saudi Arabia’s Generation Optimisation Center (GOC)
EDF has successfully established and managed two supervision and optimisation centers for the Saudi Electricity Company’s (SEC) generation fleet, which encompassed a capacity of 42,000 MW, within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, at the time. Since 2016, EDF contributed in various domains including Operation & Maintenance (O&M), asset management, fuel logistics, industrial architecture, and eMonitoring. The EDF teams seamlessly integrated with the SEC teams, fostering a collaborative environment in the Generation Optimisation Center business unit. Moreover, EDF played a pivotal role in enhancing the professional capabilities of SEC employees and in the creation of a centralised repository for knowledge transfer.
