EDF’s involvement in the competitive process for Saudi Arabia’s first Large Nuclear Power Plant (LNPP)
EDF is the world’s largest nuclear operator with unrivalled track-record and expertise throughout the entire nuclear value chain. EDF Group currently operates 65 nuclear reactors worldwide representing more than 2,200 reactor-years of cumulated operating experience.
EDF is taking part in the competitive process in Saudi Arabia, led by the Saudi Nuclear Energy Holding Company (SNE), for the construction of the first Large Nuclear Power Plant of the Kingdom.
EDF is developing a proposal to build two EPR units (1600 MWe each) with a plan to maximise the development and sustainable participation of the Saudi supply chain in the project, and bring the relevant technical and training support to the Saudi Owner-Operator. EPR is a Generation3+ nuclear reactor technology that is proven, reliable and already successfully operating in Asia and Europe. EPR is already licensed by safety authorities in France, Finland, UK and China.
